The Fame: Monster Review

Sat Nov 21, 2009, 8:04 PM
DON'T CALL ME GA GA

I wanted to give my opinion of the latest from Lady GaGa, The Fame : Monster, a CD that has such a depth, you could drown in the beats.

Bad Romance : This song has such an entrancing tone/beat. It almost has a back beat that makes you feel under a spell. And speaking of beat, the song has elements of Pokerface to the Nth degree. It's captivating, and even spell binding how the song sounds like it's from the pages of a demented sociopath. It may have you up and dancing without you even knowing how it started. And plus, it's a great sing along when you're in the city with your friends. I've been getting calls from my friends telling me how they can't get it out of their heads because of me. Surely, it's GaGa at her best.

Bad Romance, The Video : If you thought that paparazzi was her best video, you're sadly mistaken. This is GaGa. It encases every aspect of her, Over the top fashion, fantastic voice, and above all, the actor that shines through in all of her work. She is a walking performance piece, and you can see in this video.

Alejandro : This one took me a while to get used to. It opens with a 'daytime drama' set of lines that soon sink into a escalating bass that draws you into a story of what could be a love affair fit only for a soap opera, based in the streets of mexico, but with the rhythm and beat of new york. And then half way through, the beat slows and becomes an almost uplifting but saddening recreation of the back beat of the entire song. Above all this song is great, but may take a listen or two to get used to.

Teeth : I hope you've kept up with True Blood (A Show about vampires, what else?) If you haven't, the show is chock full of dirty sex. And 'Teeth' rips the southern vibe and tune straight outta the grease slicked south, and wraps it in a seductive sound that could only make you think of vampires and their charm. What else to say about this song? It pretty much speaks for itself. Dirty, sexy, rough, eerily charming.

Monster : "You Were Made For Me... Little Monster" I can't help but feel that this song is too good for it's own good. It's one of her greatest songs BY FAR, and I think it's even more hypnotic and interesting than anything else she's written. It's hard to describe such a song, but it makes you think of a dark lit room, where your eyes connect with his(the monster) and he drags you in. The break down even keeps beat with the rest of the song, which is amazing to say the least. And it has a little bit of autotune for when she says "He Ate my heart, Ma Ma Monster!" in the perfectly robotic tone. I feel as though this song is by far, the best on the soundtrack, if not her best work. It Even Mentions Just Dance And The Love Games Video!

Telephone : Have you been dreaming of a get together between Our Lady Of GaGa and The Queen Of Bootay Shakes and robotic suits, Beyonce? Well here you have it! A tune devised by GaGa and Beyonce. It starts off extremely slow, a harp playing the beat that holds the rest of the song, and then BAM! Techno! Bass! It dives directly into the ringing beat (with telephones dial tones and rings of course) and it destroys the thoughts you had at the beginning, "oh boring..." And replaces them with "OH SHIT." it will make you want to dance and strip in almost any setting. Maybe this isn't work safe?

So Happy I Could Die : And electronica ballet. It's slow, but at the same time, it's fast, creating a story all its own. It tells the tale of staying true to yourself, and giving in at the same time, knowing when exactly to move on and be happy. A nice contrast to the rest of the other songs.

Dance In The Dark : Move aside dirty dancing, you have a replacement. Dance In The Dark is basically the next chapter of dirty dancing, but with a new set of characters. It's a great song to listen to when you need to think some things out. It gives you a weird sense of stability as you fight the odds in your life. Do a dance in the dark, be yourself, be who you are when no one watches, apply it to your real life.

Speechless : And for the last song, which I saved for last, Speechless. A somber song made for GaGas father. It's a plead to get heart surgery, and within the song, she promises things like "I'll never write a song, I won't even sing along" and "I won't ever love again." It's a sweet, sad, and touching song. She pleads to him in this song, begging him to take care of himself or else she would die with him. This song took me a while to like until it got to the end and she questions him "Oh boy, why you so speechless?" Such captivation, it kills me D: !

Well those are all the songs off THE FAME : MONSTER! I really suggest these songs if you want crazy ideas or even a burst of confidence, or if you're just looking for something that's not normally what you would like. It's a great set of songs and they hold each other together so well.
